What triggered the syndicalist uprising in Barcelona?

It is clearly reported that the unions in the city of Barcelona went on a general strike and a three day long general strike resulting in violence and deaths in 1902. I have heard that the unions were clearly influenced by the political ideas of anarchism and syndicalism, however, I would like to know more about the causes that triggered the uprising and the political, social and economic conditions that influenced it.
