Hey Americans, if you ever want to see the rest of the world, travel now.

I'm a Canadian living in Norway for the past three years. I get to travel all over Europe on the weekends. I never get searched, I don't have to strip, I don't have to take off my shoes, belt, and toiletries, and my guitars get to ride in the cabin with me. I never get asked 'anything to declare?' when I fly back into Norway (even though I always have a bunch of shit), and I've never been taxed or fined for anything I bring back, even though I always go over the legal amount. When I'm abroad, they feed me, give me free booze, layovers mean I'm staying in a hotel with a gym, pool, and free food/drink, and I don't have to pay extra for checked bags (because I don't get paid enough anyway).

My girlfriend and I go on trips to other countries almost every weekend. We've been to so many countries in asia, we've lost count. We go to the middle east for 'business trips' to keep the costs way down. I get paid extra for this, so I can afford to get a taxi to the airport, go to a restaurant or bar while I wait, and I don't have to worry about finding 'the cheapest possible flights'.

We've stopped seeing North America as 'home' and have truly become a part of the global community. We've lived in Thailand for a few months, we've lived in Malaysia, we've worked in Borneo, and we've worked in the middle east. We've never been happier.

If you ever want to experience all the rest of the world has to offer, travel. Travel now.

Edit:

Holy shit this is blowing up. Thanks for the gold and silver, kind anons.

To the guy who messaged me saying I'm a 'fascist piece of shit', I get it. I'm a privileged white guy. I'm not trying to make anyone feel bad. I'm just telling it how it is. I'm sorry your country is so messed up, and I'm sorry I got out.

To the people telling me I should get a passport and 'see the real America', I'm from Windsor, Ontario, so Detroit is just across the river. I've been to a lot of your country, and I know it's beautiful. But I'm not staying in your country. I have a good thing going here. I'm not a fascist, I have nothing against your country. I just like freedom.

To all the Europeans telling me I'm not allowed to speak for them, and that I don't know their problems, you're right. I don't. But from the outside, looking in, it appears as though you have it pretty damn good. I'm sorry, and I hope Trump loses.
