LPT: If you buy an expensive tool, and it breaks, check to see if it has a lifetime warranty. If it does, call the company and explain the situation and they will probably send you a new/different one without you having to pay another cent.

My friend bought a $400 sewing machine. It's an excellent model but has two big flaws. First, it costs $400. Second, it is really hard to thread the machine. Well, one day she was trying to thread her machine and noticed that it wasn't being as difficult as usual. She soon figured out that the machine was loose because a piece had broken on the inside. She was able to continue sewing but she knew she needed to get it fixed. It was still under warranty, but she figured that it would be a hassle to get it fixed so she just called the company. They told her that she needed to send it to them so they could fix it, which sounded like a hassle so my friend decided to call again. Now I know what you're thinking, how do two calls make this a life pro tip? Well, on the second call she got a really nice lady and they talked about the problem and the nice lady was like "wow that sounds frustrating". My friend didn't know what she meant but she kept going on about how she knew what would make my friend happy and then she told her she was going to send her a brand new machine with free shipping. Now my friend is absolutely thrilled with her new machine and she didn't have to pay anything extra. She still uses her old one but the new one sews so much better and is much easier to thread.
