The biggest domestic tournament of India's cricket calendar, the Vijay Hazare Trophy, concluded recently. While many of us don't follow this tournament, it is one of the three most important domestic tournaments in India, the other two being the Ranji Trophy and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy respectively.

While many of you may be questioning that what does any of this have to do with Hinduism or Hindu Supremacy, the answer lies in the names of the trophy:

- Ranji Trophy,
- Vijay Hazare Trophy and
- Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

Post independence, three major trophies were named in India's cricket history. Now, the three people have no significance other than that two out of the three were Hindus and two out of the three had last names of Chatrapati or Hazare.

Now, while I have no problem with Mushtaq Ali being awarded, it was post-independence and I guess it could be argued that he donated one of his arms to India, I do not understand the reason why Ranji Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy were named that way.

While both were heroes and significantly impacted cricket, the truth is that many people have impacted cricket history, but the difference is the religion and caste of the trophy names.

Currently, religious sentiments are of utmost importance, and it wouldn't be wrong to change the names of the trophies. It would not be wrong to change it to Malharrao Holkar or Pratap Singh because both of these people were Kings and impacted India's history.

It wouldn't be wrong to change it to Vivekananda, Shankaracharya, etc.

While one may argue that Muslims were also a part of India, that is correct but I can assure you that if cricket players of the stature of Ranji or Hazare were Muslim, their names would have been uplifted as "Heroes of the nation" for the last 75 years, and they wouldn't have been forgotten by the people in the way that they are today.
