CMV: Had Trump been re-elected in 2020, he would not have run for re-election in 2024

My argument is that had Trump won the election, he would not have run for re-election in 2024. I know many people think he would, especially many on the left, but I do not think so. He initially planned to run in 2012, took a hard pass on it, and then we all know what happened in 2016. Trump initially kept his options open to run for re-election, and presumably was planning to, but if he had won in 2020, he would have been 78 upon the end of his second term, and he was looking simply awful in the final months of the campaign. He was already an old man in 2020, but looked much more energetic and healthy than he did in 2024, and I cannot imagine he would have been in any shape to do it. But beyond that, look at his final months as President. He had completely checked out of the job and even his advisors knew that and worked around him. If he was already completely disengaged as President in December of 2020, how on Earth would he have been in a state to run for re-election in November of 2024? There are obviously a lot of caveats to this, such as the fact that we do not know how his health would have held up, but I think Trump's personal and political state, as well as his disengagement at the end of his first term, were big signs that he would have completed a traditional two term presidency and not sought re-election.

Now, change my view, Reddit.
