I Now Understand Why This Sub Has Been So Anti-Student Lately

I'm a pretty experienced teacher (15+ years) and have never been the type to "vent" about my students. I love them, always have. Sure, there are the rare "problem" students that can pull your hair out, but I've always enjoyed my job and take pride in helping young people succeed in life.

But this year it's different. I'm not the venting type, so I just lurk and read the posts on this sub. But I now understand why people are venting so much. The students just aren't the same anymore. I can't explain it, but they just aren't there to learn. I teach at the college level, and even though this is supposed to be the cream of the crop, it seems like the majority of them aren't there to learn anything. They're just there to get a degree, doesn't matter what it's in, they just want the degree. Or they are there strictly for the "college experience." I've never had so many students in one class just flat out ask if I can do all the teaching, because they aren't going to do any of the reading or other work for the class. I've never had so many students just sit there and do absolutely nothing the whole class. I've never had so many students completely blow off my class (and from what I can tell, every class) and still think they deserve a good grade.

This is turning into a bit of a rant, so I'll stop, but I just wanted to say I now understand why there are so many posts on here that are anti-student.
