It's 4:03 am on February 25, 2025. Why is my dog "Moe" freaked out?

I'm trying to sleep at 4:03 am as my dog is barking frantically at the front door. I trained him to do this to alert me. A lot of times it's a stray animal or a person walking down the street. When my dogs alert like that I just walk to the door and look in the peephole. If there's a person there I'll ask "who is it" without unlocking the door. I've done this for years.

I walk to the front door, Moe is barking. I look in the peephole. There are two masked individuals dressed in black. They are in my front yard. Moe is extremely alert and trained by instinct to alert me when something is up. Remember dogs can smell and sense things we can't.

I don't say anything. A lot of people would say things like "I would say I'm calling the cops" or "I would say I have a gun". I once heard a story where the perpetrator heard the person behind the door say she was calling the cops, so the perpetrator called the cops. When the cops showed up they thought the person breaking into the home was the homeowner trying to break in after being locked out. The cops ended up shooting the homeowner.

I also didn't open the door. I once heard a story of someone opening the door and pretending to be a woman to try and stall. The perpetrator shot the homeowner through the door. Instead I called the cops.

I call 911 on my phone and don't say anything. Then I hang up and the dispatcher calls. I tell the dispatcher what's happening. I did two things at the same time. I called 911 as my hands were trained by muscle memory where to swipe to on my phone. I also grabbed the gun I keep on my body. Remember, for the trained person muscle memory works extremely well. When I was in the Military, I was in the Navy. When I had to fight a fire. I was trained. When I had to do a Damage Control exercise I was trained. When I trained for combat, I was trained. When I have to defend my life I'm trained. When I grabbed my gun I also knew where the spare mag was.

While on the phone I let the dispatcher know that I do have a gun. I'm trained to let the dispatcher know you have a weapon so the police don't shoot me by mistake. This is something my training told me, as well as a story I heard where a homeowner shot and intruder, the police showed up the homeowner was holding a gun, and they shot the homeowner thinking the homeowner was the intruder.

As I'm on the phone I hear the sound of glass breaking. The perpetrators have broken the window to the front door. They are entering my home. This is where my training once again kicks in. I know exactly where they are. I can pinpoint their exact position. I don't use my phone as a flashlight. I don't want to give my position away. I know exactly where they are.

The training I have done kicks in as I know exactly how to maneuver around my home to once again know exactly where they are. I'm still on the line with the 911 dispatcher in my hand. I'm also still holding the gun. At no time do I ever point the gun at my head or anywhere else where I could injure myself.

As I continue to move through my home, the perpetrators begin to run. They hear the police outside as the police dispatch told them I am armed. I trained by doing "dry runs". I would do "dry runs" once a month just in case. For instance, I would have my gun in my hand, and my phone in my other hand. I would know exactly how to walk through my house without causing injury to myself. I practiced as my training told me, as well as I practiced by instinct. Instinct is what kept me alive.

The police apprehend the two perpetrators. I'm asked questions. The police report is filed. I'm told that the once I get my window replaced I need to call back the Non Emergency number and let them know it's fixed.

I'm shaken a little. It's 5:43 am now. I need to call work and let them know what happened. I call work and let them know what happened. My boss is understanding and tells me to take the day. I'm a little shaken as my training kicked in, as well as my dogs training kicked in.

It's Feb 25, 2025. Thank God Moe is trained and I'm trained. Who knows what could have happened. They could have done anything to me.
