What are some examples of previously-hated minorities that are now widely accepted?

I've been doing a bunch of reading about different immigrant waves to the US in the early 20th century and it's shocking to me how extreme the backlash against them was.

Italians were seen to be crude and unintelligent. The same was said of Polish immigrants. Irish immigrants were seen as alcoholics and union organizers. There was a lot of backlash against all these groups, especially Italians and Irish. They suffered a lot of religious and ethnic violence.

Now, I don't think anyone is actually racist against these groups. I can't even think of a stereotype for any of them. They're just seen as white people.

What other examples exist like this, globally and throughout history? Or can people's minds only change so much?
