Why do so many women paint their toes?

I don't understand why all women paint their toes, even if they're going to wear closed toed shoes. I came home today, and my wife is sitting on the couch, watching TV with her feet up on the coffee table, and her toes are painted. Have even gone outside yet today? I go outside to mow the lawn, and there is no need for me to paint my toes. What's the point?
