Dude, I'm Kind of Freaked Out Right Now

Hey, you guys know of that sub /r/kingofrandom, right? It's a sub where the users share what they consider to be handy life hacks. I don't browse that sub on a daily basis, but I do check it every now and then, since I find most of the content there to be interesting and useful enough.

Earlier today I went onto the page, and saw that they'd posted a thread, [basically about where the potholes are in a street], and the comments of that thread were all about mapping where the potholes are in your area, as future top priority maps in case something were to go down.

That gave me an idea. I work for the US Census Bureau, and what that basically means is that I walk around my assigned neighborhood all day talking to people who haven't filled out their surveys, and trying to get them to fill theirs out.

While I do that, I use a handy little phone app that my job gave me. It's not something that anyone can get without working for the US Census Bureau, so you have no way of verifying what I'm telling you here. I just want to let you guys know that.

When you open the app, it displays where you are on Google Maps. Then you click on the street, and the app uses the google maps satellite view to zoom into that street. When it does that, it displays the address of that street, and if you click on that, you can mark down the condition of the street.

That's pretty much what the app is for. Marking streets down for repairs. I started thinking, what if I marked down all the streets that have potholes as "street in need of repairs".

That way, when something were to go down, even if the app were to be taken down, Google maps would always have the streets marked down, and we would be able to look at the street history to figure out which streets used to be marked down.

That's what I've been working on for the past few hours. I started by doing all the streets in my assigned neighborhood, and then I just did all the other neighborhoods around me as well.

I figure that the streets aren't marked down for anything right now, so if I mark them all down now, then that won't screw anything up. I'm just wondering however about the apps overall functionality however. I don't know how widespread this app is used, but the idea of all these streets that aren't in need of repair being marked down just in case something were to happen is kind of pretty freaking funny to me.
