Terrifying person in my hospital room.

I posted this in AITA a while back and someone messaged me recently that they’d love to see this on this sub. Here it is.

I (f26) gave birth last week and am currently weighted down under baby dinner plates and am too short to reach most things so please forgive me if this is rambly and poorly formatted.

My son was born by emergency c section after a really traumatic labour, and I was pretty out of it the first night I was in the hospital because the anesthetic took a while to wear off. The second night, I’m positive it was around 3 am, I was woken up by someone moving around in the room. I was alone because my boyfriend had gone home to shower and get some sleep since there’s no chairs in the delivery suites to sleep in and he was exhausted from the whole process. I’m a very light sleeper because I used to work night shifts at a fast food restaurant and would fall asleep as soon as I came home around 2am and had to wake up at 8 to do it all again, so even slight noises jolt me awake. It was dark in the room except for a little nightlight above the lockers, so it was pretty dim. I have no idea how this person got in the room since the door was shut and my locker key was in the cabinet thing above my bed, which I would’ve heard the cabinet being opened.
I’m also very shaken up by everything that happened while I was giving birth, and I’m still very sore and tired so excuse me for any discrepancies or mistakes, I’m trying my hardest to get it all down.

I looked up and my heart skipped a beat. Standing at the side of my bed, next to my bedside table was a woman, she was skinny and tall and wore a cream coloured tunic and leggings, and her hair was long, dark brown and frizzy. She was just staring at me. I honestly couldn’t see her face properly, and I don’t remember much because my brain just thought “GET HER AWAY FROM MY BABY” and started screaming. I reached for the call button taped to my bed rail and held it down, but before I could hit the nurse call button near the top, the woman turned and got out of the weighted composition of the room as quickly as physically possible and ran out the door. I’m positive she didn’t even open the door, she just turned around and got out. The call button made a beeping noise on the monitor and a few seconds later a midwife came in. Once she was gone, I told the midwife that there was a lady in the room and the midwife just froze and said “who was she? I didn’t see anyone when I came in” and I’m like yeah I didn’t see her leave because she ran out of the room like the Usain bolt the moment I screamed. I asked if she could check the other women in the ward and she said she would, but she came back a few minutes later and said that everyone was asleep and none of the other women in the ward matched my description.

I didn’t get any sleep that night and when my boyfriend came back the next morning I told him what had happened and he didn’t believe me until I got upset and told him I’d had enough validity in my life to doubt myself. He asked my midwife about what I said happened and she confirmed to him what happened, that she hadn’t seen the lady and everyone was asleep.

If you’re a medical staff member or someone who was in the ward that night and you know who this lady was, please let me know. I’m still so shook up over the whole thing.
Possibly the weirdest thing about this is that my son is the only child on the whole ward, I’m surrounded by women with no babies.
