As a kid I would press the button in the car that disabled the passenger seatbelt alarm because I thought it was my job

I haven’t been a kid in a very long time but for some reason today I remembered that whenever my parents dropped me off anywhere, they would hand me the keys so I could unlock the car and let myself in when I was ready to leave.

In between those two periods of time, one of my jobs was to make sure the car wasn’t broken into. I took that job very seriously.

When I was done waiting and called for my parents to come pick me up and was sitting in the passenger seat putting on my seatbelt, the disabled passenger seatbelt chime would still be going on.

I always thought that my second job in addition to making sure the car wasn’t broken into was disabling that alarm. I felt very important and would always give my parents a look of pride when they got in and saw that the alarm was gone.

I don’t know what made me remember that today but I think it’s very sweet and funny that I thought those were my jobs and I took pride in them like they were union jobs.
