””I love”” black elderly ladies standing on their porch, shouting ”get off my lawn” across the street to kids playing when their street is literally empty on google maps

They usually live in neighborhoods formed in the 40s that have plenty of easy access to the highway, leading to commercialization and gentrification around the houses, making it elderly people who have lived in the neighborhood when they were children.

They complain about the ”crime” in these areas that is only visible from across the street if you’re paying attention to it, and especially complain about kids playing in the street. I’m not sure if you’ve seen a map of these streets - they’re easy to navigate with a perfect grid system layout. Little kids would love to play in it.

The streets are also empty. There are plenty of cul-de-sacs and side streets to play in if you would like. The problem is that they would rather complain on their outdoor elderly patio across the street than to acknowledge the kids who decided to play in their street.

Don’t get me wrong, if kids were stealing garden gnomes or destroying lawn decorations I’d be annoyed too, but kids playing in empty streets with streetlights are not doing any harm on anybody. Just let them be.

It feels like most of them just want to complain for the sake of complaining. They’d rather sit and have neighbors over to complain about kids playing in the street than actually talk to them about it.
