You're confused. You're scared. You're in danger. If you're reading this, you're in grave danger. But you can’t see it yet. That’s okay; it comes slowly.

The first sign is usually the brief moment you’re sure you’ve heard someone else talking to you. A voice you’re sure you recognize, but can’t place. It’s always someone important, very often a family member who may have wronged you, and never someone you’ve loved so much that you can’t imagine a life without them. That’s what makes it so believable.

The voice is soft and gentle, but caustic, like a whispered exorcism. Be glad that you don’t hear it yet. Once you do, your mind will unravel faster than you can imagine. You’ll start to question the smallest things. Say you’re washing the dishes, and you find a spoon with a bit of food dried to it. You’ll wonder if you really missed this spoon, or if it was left there specifically, as a warning.

Once that happens, you’ll start to see it. The little signs. An odd shape out of the corner of your eye. A shadow lurking in the hallway as you go to bed. A pattern on the wall that wasn’t there before. You’ll start to wonder if you’re the only one seeing these things. If you really saw them in the first place.

We’re not here to confuse you further, we’re here to help.

You’re wrong. You’re seeing something that isn’t there.

If you can see this, it’s time to go see a doctor. Talk to them about it. They can help you, or they’ll find someone who can.

That voice in your ear, it isn’t real. Don’t listen to it. It’s lying.

That shadow you saw, it isn’t there.

And no, we didn’t just move. Nothing is different. It’s all in your head.

You can't see us, but that's okay. That will come slowly. And when it does, you’ll realize that you’re not in danger, and that everything is going to be okay.
