I'm a woman who just joined the military and I see men's privilege EVERYWHERE.

As the title states, I recently enlisted. I'm still in training but it's been hard emotionally. Honestly I feel like a second class citizen to these literal babies who don't know how to be adults yet.

I have many issues with the training environment but my largest issue is the lack of discipline the male drill sergeants have for the male recruits. They are FAR more forgiving of the men then they are of us. Especially when it comes to tasks that are traditionally feminine. Like housekeeping or sewing. I've seen MALE recruits completely fuck up a task and get barely a talking to but get a woman to do it slightly wrong and we get our heads bitten off. I've seen women get held back in training for "failing" a task at the same rate or slower rate then men but the women have to stay and the men get to progress in their training as if nothing is wrong.

I've had a training instructor tell me to "get back in the kitchen and not to question them." I've been called a b!tch, a sl*t, and a "whore" by instructors. I had one drill sergeant pull me aside and tell me that if a guy hits on me to just "be nice" and go along with it because I don't want to make them angry.

I've seen male recruits sexually harass women and nothing happens to them. While one of my coworkers got in trouble for walking with her hands in her pockets. The DADT policy is a joke. The Male drill sergeants don't care and will regularly make comments about the women's' bodies while we're all in our towels trying to shower.

There is this one girl who is a lesbian who likes one of our fellow female recruits. They've never done a thing but the Male drill sergeant found out and has been calling her a sl*t and a WHORE ever since.

The living environment is horrible. They set up the women's barracks first and they worked us to the bone the entire morning. By the time it was night and we could actually go to our barracks to set up, many of us collapsed from exhaustion. The next morning we found out we had to tear everything down and transport it to a different facility because the men hadn't set up their barracks yet.

When we were at camp this past week, we had port-a-potties for bathrooms. The men's port-a-potties were maintained regularly while ours were left until the very last minute and were overflowing with piss and shit.

One of the guys got a hand job by a female recruit(who was peer pressured by her friends) and the guys have been braging about it ever since. Nothing has happened to them or the girl but the drill sergeants regularly bring it up to humiliate her.

It's all so frustrating because the training instructors are all older men who were in the military when women weren't allowed. They've told us that. And you can tell they don't take women seriously and think we're here for their entertainment.

Idk I just think it's bullshit we get treated this way. The drill sergeants just see us as lesser recruits.

Edit: For clarity I am in the Army. I just want to say thank you to all the female veterans who reached out and shared their stories. It's not better now then it was 20, 30 years ago. I'm likely going to report my training instructors once I'm out of training and if nothing comes of it I'll be speaking to a lawyer.
