CMV: This sub could be a safe space for productive discussion if it weren't for certain users and their agendas.

As a lurker, I have often found myself interested in the content posted to this sub. Unfortunately, it appears that some of the content is posted with ulterior motives.

Posters with agendas are ruining the quality of the threads. All a post needs to be a good CMV thread is to have 3-5 well-written paragraphs elaborating on the topic in the title, and then for the poster to aggressively defend and clarify their points. Instead, we often read posts like "You're not procrastinating if you're on Reddit. You're just being a responsible Redditor, and Reddit is your office and coworkers." and find that the poster is usually arguing a hypothetical analogy that no one has ever thought to argue against.

Or worse, we encounter threads that are thinly-veiled attempts to ask specific questions and provoke specific responses for future self-reporting. For example, "CMV: Everyone who wants to be a police officer should be subject to psychological evaluation before working with people." If you want to know why police do not subject all candidates to psych evals, you can Google it. A good CMV thread stands on its own, without the need to refer to other sources. Furthermore, CMV should be about changing *your* view. This type of question is an attempt to acquire information without doing the research yourself.

This sub has the potential to be an amazing resource to expand our perspectives and challenge our own beliefs. Unfortunately, with the amount of time I have spent combing through the history, I can't say that I have encountered a single genuine and productive post. Of course, there is always the possibility that I have come across at least one. What I can say, however, is that the majority of posts on this sub lack quality and display obvious biases and agendas.

CMV, being a lurker, I have come to this conclusion.
