My grandma accidentally superdosed on marijuana gummies and had an epic freakout

So my grandma and grandpa visited Colorado recently and stayed with me for a few days. My grandpa got called away to deal with some stuff with his brother so my grandma was staying with me by herself for a day or two. She went on a walk in the forest and saw a guy selling weed at one of the green signs that says "marijuana information" on it. She didn't know what the guy at the booth was selling so she asked him and then she asked if it would help her arthritis and he said it would so she bought some gummies.

She had never had any gummies before and she didn't realize that one of those things is of equivalent potency to 2-3 joints (not that she's ever had a joint either). Anyway, she took the whole thing and then waited for 45 minutes and didn't feel anything so she took another one. This time she waited for 20 minutes and still didn't feel anything and was like "well this sucks" and took another whole one at once (so 3 gummies, way higher than the legal dose). 10 minutes later she felt it and it hit her like a brick to the face.

She started to feel sick and called me, saying she thought she had food poisoning and needed to be taken to the hospital. At this point, she was actually in a panic, saying that she felt "like she was going to pass out" and that "she couldn't see properly" and that "the room was spinning". She was breastfeeding (jk) so I had to pick her up and she had to sit in the passenger seat while I drove her to the hospital.

On the car ride, she kept saying she was going to throw up, but never did. Each time I asked her if she felt like she was going to throw up she said yes, and when I handed her the barf bag she would close her eyes and take a deep breath and say "I think I can wait until we get to the hospital".

Because of her delusions, she was convinced that we weren't moving even though I was going 60 on the highway with my brights on. I wasn't until we stopped at a stoplight that she realized we were moving because the stoplight was the only thing that she could see out of the corner of her eye that appeared to be stationary. She started to panic even more at that point because she realized that "we really weren't moving" because the tree that she was looking at out of her window was moving at 60 miles per hour.

We finally got to the hospital and I rolled her out of the passenger seat and into a wheelchair. She didn't even notice, or if she did, she didn't register it, because she was so focused on trying to stop herself from passing out and vomiting. We got into the emergency room and she insisted that they take her straight to a bed because "she didn't have time to talk to anybody". I told her that they wouldn't do that and she needed to answer some questions and she started bitching at them saying "I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR THIS I NEED TO GO TO A BED NOW PLEASE".

They took her to a bed and a doctor came in and she was like "doc I think I might have food poisoning". He chuckled and said "no you don't, you're high". She started to protest and he was like "no you're definitely high, just chill for a few hours and you'll be fine". I don't know if he was just saying that to calm her down or what, but it worked because she did end up chilling for a few hours, although she didn't think it had been that long (she was convinced that she had only been in the ER for 10 minutes). Anyway, she went from being in extreme discomfort and pain to laughing at everything and saying that "the way the ceiling tiles look is so funny".

After 6 hours the hospitals said she was good to go and was safe to drive home. I picked her up and drove her to my place, where she stayed for another 24 hours before picking up my grandpa from the airport. When we dropped her off my grandpa asked her how she had been and she said "I was lonely" and my grandpa probed her with some questions and she finally said "I had a little too much weed". He asked her what she meant and she said "I didn't drink too much but I had some marijuana". My grandpa was like "what? how much did you smoke" and she said "I didn't smoke any, I ate that candy" and my grandpa was like "how much candy did you eat" and she said "one piece". He was like "one piece? how big was it" and she said "I don't know" and he asked her to describe it to him.

When she described the piece of candy to him he was like "Jesus Christ that's a lot" because what she had eaten was 3-4 times a normal dose. He asked her how she felt and she said "not good" and described all of the things I listed above. He asked her why she didn't call me and she said "I didn't want to bother you". He told her that she needed to call someone if she ever felt like that and she said okay.

Even though she had a bad time she said she would "try it again someday".

Anyway that's the story of what happened when my grandma superdosed on marijuana.
