The guy from the opposite window

The following happened to me 3 years ago, when I was in France for summer holidays. This town is very close to the beach and all the houses have a wall around as there are a lot of tourists and many houses are empty during the year. My house is surrounded by a small forest; from one side of the house you can exit the garden easily as it is lower and it’s touching the forest’s ground , but from the other side there is a cliff between the garden and the forest.<br><br>Since the forest all around the house, the multiple windows and doors and the empty houses around, I don’t sleep a second without closing and locking everything. I don’t remember if it was the first or second day but I woke up in the night and I saw a shadow standing in the window of my bedroom. My window is around 10 feet from the ground , so it’s kind of strange to find a person standing in the window, but it was behind the shutters so I thought it was a silly panic attack, but I went to check anyway. Once I checked , I went back to sleep.<br><br>The next day a man approached me and started talking to me. He told me that he saw a man standing in my window and then he told me all his life story (at least it felt that way) . He was an old man, around 70 so I thought it wasn’t a big deal. <br><br>The following nights I would wake up every time I heard a noise, so I wasn’t sleeping that well. One night I woke up and I saw again a shadow standing in the window and this time as soon as I moved he fell on the ground. I ran and checked and could see nothing, but the fencing was opened and it should have been locked. I was thinking that it was my fault again and that I didn’t close the fence.<br><br>The next day I saw the same old man and I told him what happened. He told me that his bedroom window is in front of mine and that if a person is standing in my window he can see the person’s upper half of the body (the house has a small wall in front of the ground floor windows, so you can only see the upper half) . We were talking and I told him how I was feeling so bad because I wasn’t sleeping. He then offered me his night guard dog and I told him I wasn’t comfortable with it as it was a huge Doberman and I didn’t want to have a dog in the house. So he told me that he can let the dog out every night and he will sleep in front of my fence. I was really touched by this proposition and I said ok. <br><br>The next day I came back from the beach and I saw the man and the dog. I thanked him a lot and I told him that I could give him money so he can buy food for the dog. He told me that he will do it , but from time to time I was giving him 10 euro and he was buying the dog food with them. The dog was sleeping there for around a month and I was able to sleep , I wasn’t hearing any noises and I was feeling safe. One night I woke up and I saw my friend was standing in front of the fence, walking. I went to my window and I asked him if anything was wrong as the dog would bark to any noise. He looked up and he could see me and he told me that he was just walking and checking. I thanked him a lot and I went back to sleep.<br><br>A day before the dog was about to leave, I woke up in the night and I could hear someone walking around the house. I was thinking that it was my friend, but I went to check. The dog was not there, but a man was standing in the window. I saw him and he jumped into the forest and he fell on the ground. I started screaming and I was running to the door. The man who was supposed to be the dog’s owner came running and he told me to stay inside and not to open the door. I didn’t know what was happening, I was panicking a lot and I was thinking that he might be with the other guy. After 10 minutes he came back and he told me that the fence was open and the dog was nowhere to be seen. He was looking everywhere for the dog and I couldn’t find it either. Then I remembered what he told me when we first met and I told him to check his window. He came back and he told me that a man was standing in my window and the upper half of his body could be seen from his house. He told me that the man was running when he saw him so he didn’t see his face. He then called the police and they came. We told them the whole story but they didn’t do anything , they just told us to be careful. We were looking for the dog the whole night, but we couldn’t find him.<br><br>The next day I came back from the beach and the man and the dog were in front of the fence. I was very happy that the dog was ok. The man then told me that he was never the dog’s owner and he found him and he took him. He was living in this house for 40 years and from time to time a man was standing in the window. Everytime he saw the man, he got a bad feeling and it was always something bad happening after . He told me that his whole family died in car accidents and falls and he thinks it was because the man was standing in the window. I thanked him a lot and I told him that he saved me from the man and it could have happened to me what happened to his family. He told me to not tell his family that he gave me the dog as it was all a lie so he can make me sleep and he can check if the man is around. <br><br>After I left he wrote me a long email about what happened all those years and how he feels about it. He also told me that what he did was nothing and he did it for his own family and for the bad things that happened. He wanted to give a new home to the dog , but he never told his family about the man in the window.
