The most influential event in human history has been the development of agriculture. Without that, we would not have been able to settle down, grow population sizes, or scale societies to the size of current states. The second is probably the development of writing, as that has allowed us to accumulate knowledge far faster than oral tradition could ever do.

Whether you think it's in the immediate future or far, far away, AI will be a developmental event on par with agriculture and writing. It's obvious we are moving toward this conclusion; many of us can see it unfolding in front of our faces already. I think it's why some people are so hell-bent on slowing it down or halting it because they know what's on the other side of the event horizon.

I don't think there's any way we can stop this, so all we can do is prepare for the impact.
