I have a question I wanted to ask but was afraid to ask in the military subreddits because i assume I will be swarmed with condescending and sarcastic replies.
Over the last year I have been interested in military vehicles like fighter jets, bombers, tanks and even ships. I have been reading about them and watching videos about them, I assume most people consider the F-14 Tomcat to be the most iconic fighter jet used by the US Navy. But the more I read about it, the more I found the F-5 Phantom II to be actually more efficient and successful in every way it is superior in service life and service time, and it is way faster and has way more maneuverability not only that but F-5 Phantom II is also very versatile it can be used in air to air combat and air to ground. but what is so special about F-14 Tomcat?

Edit: Thanks for the replies, I thought this thread is dead but I'm glad it got more replies I am sorry I'm not active here I don't have Reddit App and it is not easy for me to check each time I would love to reply to everyone of you for the nice replies you have given me, I actually didn't know the F-5 Phantom II wasn't used by the Navy I have been researching it for one year now and I didn't know that even YouTube videos kept mentioning US Navy and none of them mentioned US Air Force and US Army so I thought F-5 Phantom II was used by the Navy. Thanks again for the nice replies, I try to be more active here.
