App idea: a ”Non-Monogamy app” for open relationships.

I’ve had a few friends with Poly relationships that have to use dating apps with people they don’t know or social media.<br><br>I don’t know how hard it is to be in a non-monogamous relationship, but it feels like it’s becoming more normal, and I’ve always thought that there’s a market for this kind of app.<br><br>I work as a software engineer and the pandemic made me start thinking about what I can build. I don’t know if it’s something large enough for ”a startup” but I think I have enough experience to build something that could be useful for people. I’ve done some market research and I’ve found a few apps like this, but it feels like you’ll find ”swipe” dating app after ”swipe” dating app so it feels like there’s an opening for an app doing something else?<br><br>Maybe I’m wrong though. Maybe it’s too small of a market, or maybe there’s some other reason why this wouldn’t work. I also know that large large dating apps ”Non-monogamous relationships” as a setting, but the focus is still on the traditional single user relationship.<br><br>Pros: <br>- Could be a niche that isn’t taken yet.<br>- Feels like this could be a moral win as well, I know two friends that had trouble in their relationships because of mistrust and this app could help solve that issue. I haven’t done research into how well dating apps work for non-monogamous relationships but I imagine there’s a lot of ”yeah I’m open, but not THAT open” type of conversations you’ll need to have, which this app could simplify.<br><br>Cons: <br>- Being single myself, it feels weird to build an app that I’ve never been part of, and maybe the biggest hurdle. If I don’t know what you need, how would I know what to build?<br>- It may be a sensitive topic to build an app for relationships that are different from the ”norm”, I can imagine getting hate for this which I’m not sure I want to handle on my own.<br><br>So I’m asking here for your thoughts on the matter, should I go for it or is it a bad idea? And if you have experience with this, what would you want in an app for non-monogamous relationships?
