Are incels a joke to be taken lightly?

I've noticed how some people view the incel phenomenon. It's like they think incels are the equivalent of someone saying "I'm going to shoot myself in the foot before running a marathon". That is, it's a ridiculous concept that is unlikely to be put into practice, and even if it is, nothing will come out of it.
