The act of doing nothing

I use a lot of my free time thinking about things that ultimately don't matter. I'm sure a lot of people do this. I was just wondering, what are the implications of having nothing to do but what's in your head (or in my case, in my journal). I don't really know how to explain this so I'll just leave it to you all.
