If I get a coffee machine for my office, don't steal it

I recently had a situation where a person I met through work had been in my office and made an offhand comment "I thought you'd have a coffee machine" and I thought nothing of it, just a general small talk statement. The next day, the manager of the building where we are located called to inform me that a person was seen on camera leaving our building with a coffee machine, leaving a note stating "I work for [two companies lease in this building, including ours]".

I told him I didn't give anyone permission to take a coffee machine and my company did not supply one, so he told me to call the police. I did and they came and took the report and the camera footage then told me to tell them if my coffee machine ever turned up. I had totally forgotten about the conversation about the coffee machine and it was not until then that I remembered.

So, that's a pretty weird thing to steal, plus my office being in a secure building with cameras everywhere and the police having your license plate number. So, no coffee for you, and definitely hope we don't meet again.
