This sub was created on Dec. 17, 2016. Following the aftermath of the 2016 election, there was a remarkable amount of support for removing him prior to inauguration. There were articles written by media outlets big and small, and even a few Congressmen discussing that he should never enter the White House. There were large scale protests, and they were covered by media. The petition to have Trump impeached prior to Inauguration got 1.3 million signatures.

Sure, all these efforts were a pipe dream. But there was a lot more momentum for resisting him out of the gate. There was a lot more support for resistance in the first half of 2017. Even when the AHCA passed the House, there was national media support for resisting Trump. But as people began to get tired, the momentum slowed. We got bogged down in defending anything the administration did, and occupied with defending the best parts of Obama's legacy (ACA). We got caught up in the investigation, and the executive orders. Russians, Stormy, and Kellyanne kept us busy.

As resistance to Trump grew more strained and disjointed, the media got tired of it. They stopped covering the protests, and dismissed the activists as crazy people who can't get over an election loss. Congressmen who had been vocal against Trump got quiet. The protests got smaller and less frequent. We went home. It felt like we had failed, and the guys who said Trump was gonna be president no matter what we said or did were right.

They weren't right, they were wrong. And we are seeing that now. Trump had no mandate, and he barely had a plurality. Had we continued getting in the streets, and jamming the phone lines, calling our representatives, had we continued talking about it, organizing, and pushing back, I don't think the ACHA ever would have passed, I think it's entirely possible that Bannon and Miller would be gone, and I don't think we would be facing what we are today. Maybe none of that would have happened, but it seems like we gave up too soon and too easily.

What changed between 1/20/2017 and 8/13/2017? Well, we got tired. We went home.

Don't go home.

We are seeing resistance surge again, and I think it's going to keep building momentum. We are seeing it in the polling numbers, we are seeing it in the trend of media coverage, we are seeing it in the streets. It seems like a good time to dust off the ole' Subreddit and get to work again. This is a good time to be vocal, and visible. This is a good time to organize, and get loud.

Don't give up. Don't go home. We are Deport Trump and we are getting loud again. Welcome back.
