I stole a microwave from the dorms I stayed at when I was in the Army.

Title basically says it all. I spent about a month at an Army Basic Training facility back in 1995 to attend a 'school' (basically a specialized training course) for my job (I was a truck driver). I was stationed up in South Dakota at the time. The dorms are pretty Spartan with no real amenities. At the time I think we had 2 vending machines with snacks and sodas, and that's it.

I hung out with a couple of guys from my platoon (Basic Training is usually for new recruits. In my case, I had already been in the Army a couple years, but still had to go through Basic Training itself. In this case, our class consisted of a bunch of jobs in one platoon - basically all support staff). One guy was getting out of the Army, and one guy was going to Germany for his duty station. The guy getting out had a microwave that he purchased when he got sent to his Basic Training location.

Long story short, when he left he didn't want to take the microwave because of storage, shipping, etc so he left it with the other guy. Who promptly left it in the bay when he left. I saw it and thought hey, perfect. So I grabbed it.

Yeah, I could have been court-martialed. Yeah, I could have gone to Leavenworth. Yeah, it was stupid. Yeah, I still use it to this day.

Edit: I was in a class that was closer to a technical school, so no one really gave a shit. Also I don't think anyone would have said anything.

Edit2: I mean I could have gone to Leavenworth **If I had been caught.**

Edit3: Wtf people, this is a confession. I'm not particularly 'proud' of it, but thanks for the awards.

Edit4: Thanks for the gold, kind anon.

Edit5: I feel bad for everyone who had shitty living conditions. My dorm as a 'school' was very much different than Basic Training. My class consisted of around 60 guys from different branches (Marine, Navy, Air Force). It was more akin to a technical school than Basic Training. And the housing reflected that.

Edit6: You know, I do realize that the Army will no longer give a shit about this. I'm just making sure my parents don't see this.

Edit7: 10 year update/Journal - I'm still using the microwave. It's been used at the following locations:

 * Loring AFB, ME (1995-1996)

 * Minot AFB, ND (1996-1999)

 * Scott AFB, IL (1999-2001)

 * Home (2001-2004)

 * Home (2004-2008)

 * Home (2008-2010)

 * Home (2010-2012)

 * Home (2012-2014)

 * Home (2014-2015)

 * Home (2015-2018)

 * Home (2018-2020)

 * Home (2020-2023)

That's right, folks. That microwave is still my primary microwave.
