I don’t know if this will stop my son from hoarding the coffee in the house, but I just wanted an opinion on what you guys would do in this situation.

My son loves to drink Starbucks coffee. I’m not a big fan of it, but I let him buy a few cans to fuel his habit, as long as he buys the less strong variety.

Well, a few weeks ago, he brought home several cans of the more concentrated variety. I am glad he did because it ends up that I really like it.

So there are now 5 cans of the more concentrated variety in my house, and 2 cans of the less concentrated variety.

What has been happening for the last week or so is that my son will drink a can, then bring it to work and leave it in the break room for up to a week before remembering to bring it home. Then he will bring it back home and put it in the fridge where I end up finding it a few days later, flat.

Last night, I went to get a can of coffee from the fridge for a morning pick-me-up, only to find 3 flat cans in there. So I took one of my son’s cans of Starbucks out to the garage and threw it away.

He came down to the kitchen about 5 minutes later and noticed the can was missing. He asked me if I had taken it, and I told him yes. He got pretty upset, saying that if he didn’t want it he would have thrown it away. I got pretty irritated, saying that if he forgot about it for a week it’s probably flat anyway.

He got mad at me for getting mad at him, then ended up taking all of his Starbucks out of the fridge and leaving it in the machine he uses to make his coffee at work. I learned about this because I opened the fridge and found 2 empty slots.

This has created a problem for me and my husband, because I stole his can of coffee. Now we have to buy coffee to make some in a drip maker so it doesn’t get so over-extracted that it’s bitter.

So am I the asshole here? I mean, he doesn’t drink instant coffee or decaf. If he wants a cup, he has to go to work to make one, or he drinks the leftover liquor from a bottle, which is not good.
