I stole food, sometimes a lot of food, from a fast food restaurant when I was a teenager because my father starved me.

\-------------

I worked at a fast food restaurant when I was a teenager. I was a manager by the time I was 16 as they promoted me twice. At 16 I had a key and access to the camera system.

I always made sure to take a 16 ounce cup of ice out with me when I smoked weed during my lunch break off premises. That way I could say I was drinking water if anyone ever caught me. I don't know if they ever actually thought I was drinking water, but they never said anything.

I had several cameras that had blind spots. One was a hallway going to the freezer. The camera only saw the door and not down the hallway. So I could put whatever I wanted in my apron and no one would know. I always made sure it was food that was expiring soon that they may have had to throw away anyway. So I never really felt bad about it. I had them throw away plenty of food too. And we were told not to eat the food when nobody was eating because it cost them money for us to eat, even though a lot of times we'd be hungry at work and the food was right there.

I always felt like I was stealing for a good reason. As a young teen, it was a choice between being beaten or starved. My dad would starve me all weekend sometimes for discipline. I'd come home from school on Friday and not be allowed to eat until Monday when I got home from school.

I'd go home on a Friday and tell my dad I was hungry. He'd say "You should've eaten your lunch at school." I'd try to explain how I'd eaten my lunch and lunch is a long time before dinner. He'd say "Well you'll just have to wait until you get home from school Monday."

So at the end of my shift I'd put a bunch of food in my apron that they were going to throw away when we closed. I'd eat some and take some home and put it in the fridge. Sometimes I'd sneak food out when we were busy serving customers. I'd just take the bag of burgers or fries or whatever and throw the bag in the trash, the customer thinking I just threw the box away. I'd run to the back, break down the box, throw it back in the trash and take the food.

I have never felt bad about this. I felt like the food was already ordered. It was paid for. It was going to be served to a customer. But I was going to eat it instead. So the food was bought and paid for and was going to be eaten one way or the other. And I needed the food more than the customer did.

Edit: Wow this blew up fast. Not surprising with how top down this site is. Thanks for the gold. I guess this is the thanks I get for feeding the hungry. I'll make sure to be more selfish in life.
