The Problem with Women in Tech

This is going to sound like a rant, and I guess it kinda is, but I am trying to make some concrete points about a particular subset of men and their behavior, because I think that the broader man community can benefit from understanding it better. It’s about a particular group of men, and their behavior towards women.<br><br>First off, the tech industry has been changing, and it’s been changing fast. More women are getting into tech. It’s about time, too, because women have just as much of a right to make a living in tech as anyone else. I believe that tech education should be free and available to all, because the value that tech professionals bring to the world is so great.<br><br>More women in tech is a great thing. I am glad to see it. There are more women in tech than ever before, and that is awesome.<br><br>But women in tech aren’t treated equally. They aren’t paid equally. They don’t get the same respect, they don’t get the same opportunities. It’s not right, and I hate seeing it.<br><br>This is where it gets tricky. Women in tech, as a whole, aren’t trying to hold back men. Women in tech aren’t trying to push men down. Women in tech are just trying to do their best in their careers, to make a living, to be successful.<br><br>And I think there are a lot of men, both in tech and out of tech, that are just mad at women, period. Mad at the fact that women are there, and they are succeeding. They’re mad at the fact that they don’t have the same respect, that they don’t get the same opportunities. They’re mad at the fact that they’re being pushed down, by women who just want to make a living.<br><br>Women in tech aren’t trying to push you down. They aren’t trying to hold you back. They’re just there. They want to do well in their careers, they want to be successful. But they’re not doing well, they’re not being successful. And I think that’s because of the way that men in tech treat them.<br><br>Men in tech don’t treat them as equals. They don’t give them the same respect, the same opportunities. They talk about them, and about women in general, in ways that they wouldn’t talk about men. Men in tech act like women are somehow less than men, and it’s just not true.<br><br>Women in tech are there to do their best, to make a living. But they’re being treated poorly, and it’s not their fault.
