VERRIDE! I took the money and didn't tell my wife. I spent a small portion of it on a trip for just me and my daughter. My wife knows where the money went and has agreed to pay me back. I did have her agree to write down how much she owes me, this will be for my daughter's college or a house for her in the future.

I've received a lot of feedback. I appreciate this sub for being able to let me get it all off my chest.

I'm not trying to deceive my wife, she is my best friend in this world. I want to leave this money to my daughter for when she leaves the house. I'm worried that if I mentioned the money, my wife will throw it into the family pot and decide to spend it on something that won't benefit our daughter if she needs it.

My wife and I have saved a house deposit for our daughter (18) and our son (15) we have already used our daughter's house deposit to get her into a house. She moved out when she turned 18. Our son knows that when he turns 18 the money can be used for whatever he needs, we've saved about 60k for each of them. This money will be put away for our daughter (possibly my son too) to attend college.

I recently had to replace the roof of our house and the company that did it found a small flower pot filled with 100k cash hidden above the rafters. I'm not really sure how it got there, the house is 200 years old so its been there for some time. The roofers took pictures but didn't touch it and told me about it. We agreed that they didn't need to know what I did with it.

I told my wife about the roofers finding it but said it was just random pieces of tiles that had fallen from the chimney that were stuck up there. She keeps poking at me to throw it away, I don't want to because I think that money belongs to my family. She doesn't know about the money, she thinks its broken tile pieces.

AITA for not being truthful with my wife?

EDIT! I want to point out that I'm not being dishonest in the sense that I'm trying to deceive her, I'm doing this to get this money into a savings account for my daughter to use on anything she wants when she turns 21, and with the permission of my daughter, we've agreed to keep it a secret. I don't have any savings accounts that my wife doesn't know about, she has access to all of them.

My daughter has requested that the money remains a secret, she wants to use the money for college or a new house and doesn't want her brother to find out that she has it. She knows her brother will feel like we're being unfair if he finds out that she got more money than him. She's agreed that this be split between them when he turns 21 as well.

My daughter and I agreed that I could use a small amount of this money to take her on a trip. We had a great time together, and my wife was a little hurt that she wasn't invited along. I told her that I felt bad for not being there for our daughter's birthday so I wanted to do something special with her. My wife can't see past the fact that I'm using "her" money. She's agreed to pay me back, but I told her I'll just have her owe me the money I spent, she can pay me back via money transfer or when we take the money to a financial advisor to get better savings for our children.

My wife was hurt that I said this was "my" money, I told her I wanted to surprise my daughter and since she didn't know about it, I didn't tell her. My wife is now being very cold towards me and me alone, my kids have started to notice, my daughter has started to work a little overtime to make up for the money I took.

I think if I just told my wife, and maybe let her have a small portion of it, she wouldn't be mad at me anymore. It's been 6 weeks since I told my daughter about the money and 3 weeks since I spent some of that money.
