Just learned that the Catholic Church sells indulgences, and this is still going on.

Today, I learned that the Catholic Church sells indulgences. This means people who can't afford to do the penance can pay money, and then they can do a lot less of the work they need to do to get into heaven. I was super shocked that Catholicism sells indulgences because I thought it was the reason why the reformation happened.

I looked it up, and yes they still do this. How is this not considered selling heaven?

I also don't get why someone needs to do penance, if they go to confession. Isn't the point of confession to admit your sins?
