Gabbard sues Clinton for defamation over 'Russian asset' remark

Former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) has filed a defamation lawsuit against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton over her remarks in a 2019 podcast appearance in which she suggested that Gabbard was "being groomed" by the Russians.<br><br>The lawsuit — filed in the Eastern District of New York — claims that Clinton knowingly made false statements against the then-presidential candidate in October 2019 to hurt her campaign. Gabbard is suing for damages estimated to be upwards of $50 million, according to the filing.<br><br>"It appears you moved very quickly from being an offended woman to plaintiff for cartridge box defamation. Perhaps you should try to be a decent person or politician or even a better candidate before you attempt to be lawyer," Clinton's lawyer said in a statement.
