When my family and I moved into our new house in GA, I was 14 years old. I had just moved from Setauket, Long Island.

I was new to my school and was sitting alone at lunch eating when the football team and cheerleaders started moving in on me. I remember asking one of them if I was sitting in their seat and this one girl said, “Maybe you’re sitting in MY seat.” I looked at her and said, “Two seats open right here, you can sit here!”

She asked me “Who are you?” I said, “I’m Bobbi. Who are you?”

She said, “I’m Jessica. And these guys are the football team.”

I said, “I’m sorry, I thought you were the chess club.”

The cheerleaders and football players started laughing and we became friends.

One day I got a call from an unknown number, I asked who it was, they said “It’s Wes”. I told him I didn’t know a Wes. Wes was one of the guys on the football team that would hang out with us.

He said “Two seats open over here. Maybe you’re sitting in MY seat.”

I said, “You can sit here, there’s two seats open.”

He laughed and said, “I’m just playing. All the girls at school are jealous of you. You’re rhyming with freedom and you don’t even know it!”

I told him to stop being weird and asked him why he had a blocked number. He said It was just a cool new app he got.

I was like, “Oh I didn’t know you could do that.”

He said, “Well you don’t know me.”

I said, “Yes, I do... you play football, you like to hang out with us, you have an app for a blocked number and... you like to joke around like a weirdo.”

He said, “Well… I guess you do know me.”

I talked to him for a minute and then he said that he had to go.

I said, “Okay fine, you won’t tell me about your app so I guess I’ll just see you at school tomorrow since we have a game… see you then.”

He hung up the phone.

The next day at school, I told Jessica that Wes called me. She said “What? He’s never called me.” I thought that was a little strange, but I just brushed it off.

We were all hanging out after school the next day and Wes brought it up again, “You know, two seats open over here....”

I said, “Wes, yadummy! Two seats open right here... you can sit here!” He laughed and said, “I love you, Bobbi. We should go to the mall over the weekend.”

I said, “I only date basketball players.”

He said, “I’m sorry!”

I said, “It’s okay. Basketball players are my favorite.”

He said, “Who’s your favorite basketball player?”

I said, “Charles Barkley.”

He said, “I’m sorry Charles, but I really like Bobbi and I want to take her to the mall.”

I said, “Charles doesn’t care since he knows you’re just a football player. Besides, I don’t care about how you feel, I care about how I feel and I don’t feel like dating you, I feel like dating a basketball player.”

He said, “I thought you were just messing with me about the basketball thing. Can you just hang out with me this weekend, please?”

I told him it would be okay, and I would meet him at the mall.

The whole group of us went to the mall and started walking around. He saw a skincare store. Told me to wait, he would be right back.

I waited for a few minutes until he came out of the store with a shopping bag. I asked him, “What did you buy?” He told me it was just a present for his mom. I asked him why he needed skincare for his mom and he said she had an acne problem.

I told him, that’s cool, my mom has acne too. He asked me if she had tried a face peel and I said yeah, it didn’t really help.

He said, “Well, now we have two face peels. Let’s rhyming with freedom.”

I asked him what that meant and he said, “You know... be free. Be free from your acne.”

I told him that he was a weirdo and our friends should be back from the food court soon.

When our friends got back, they said, “Why do you guys smell like lotion and cucumber?”

Wes said, “Bobbi and I just got a couple of face peels.”

I said, “Yes! You know since we both have acne.” Jessica said, “I didn’t know you had acne.”

I said, “Yeah, I have really bad acne... my mom too.”

I think at that point Wes realized I was messing with him so he didn’t say anything else about my acne.

The next week at school, I was sitting in class when another unknown number called me. I answered it and Wes said, “Two seats open over here. Maybe you’re sitting in MY seat.”

I said, “I thought you didn’t tell people about your app?”

He said, “I send you all of my apps... you didn’t download it?”

I said, “I don’t know what you’re talking about... my address is 1223 Betty Jo Drive, and if you want to mail me an app, I’ll try to install it.”

He said, “Two seats open over here.”

I told him I was in school and I had to go.

The rest of the week I got that call over and over again. “Two seats open over here.”

I thought it was funny that he thought I was stupid enough to give out my address so he could install an app on my phone.

Now I was the one saying, “Two seats open over here... maybe you’re sitting in MY seat.”

That whole week, he would call me and say, “Two seats open over here.”

And I would say, “Two seats open right here... you can sit here.”

One day while I was in class, a man who I didn’t recognize walked into my room. He said, “Bobbi?”

I said, “Yes.”

He said, “The principal needs to see you.”

I got up from my seat and followed him to the office.

The principal wasn’t there so I waited for a few minutes until he came in and asked me why I was there. I said some man came and got me and said that you wanted to see me.

He said, “I didn’t send anyone for you. Please go back to class.”

I walked back to class and when I got there, the man was standing by the door.

I asked him who he was and why he made me come to the principal’s office. He told me that he was just a substitute teacher and that the principal had sent him for me but now he didn’t need me anymore.

I told him that wasn’t true and he smiled and walked away.

Two seats open over here.

The next day I was sitting in class when the principal came over the intercom and told me to come to the office. I walked to the office and it was empty.

I left and was walking back to class and there was the substitute. He asked me, “Bobbi, do you want to see a magic trick?”

I said, “No.”

He reached in his pocket and pulled out a piece of paper and lit it on fire. He said, “Watch, I can make the fire disappear.”

I said, “How?”

He said, “I can make it disappear in my pocket.”

I said, “That’s not a magic trick. That’s just stupid.”

He said, “I like you Bobbi. Maybe we can play another magic trick and I can make you disappear.”

I said, “I don’t want to play that trick. Now give me the other piece of paper you just lit on fire since you’re magic trick is over.”

He looked at his pocket and there was a piece of paper upside down in his pocket that was a folded up piece of paper with my address written on it. 1223 Betty Jo Drive.

I asked him how he knew my address and he said that he worked at the post office.

I told him he was a substitute teacher and he said he worked at the post office on the weekends.

I asked him if he was the one calling me all the time. He said, “Two seats open over here.”

I was so scared, I told him I had to go to class.

I left and went to class and started crying. I told my teacher that a man was stalking me and had my address.

He said, “Oh my god... The Atlanta Serial Killer is still on the loose. Do you think it could be him?”

I said, “I don’t know but I’m going to tell my parents.”

That night I did tell my parents but they thought that I was exaggerating and I was just trying to get attention since I was having a hard time making friends at my school.

I told them that he was calling me all the time and had my address and knew where I lived. They said I couldn’t file a report for that. I had to wait for him to do something bad to me before I called the cops
