I found an Oedipus complex in real life, and it was terrifying

I've always found the idea of Oedipus complexes fascinating, but I never thought I'd find real life evidence of it. I was attending a private christian boarding school when I was 18, a junior in high school. One night I was walking by a hotel room and found the door open, and I could hear someone saying to their mother, "What am I going to do if daddy doesn't come back? I don't want to be married, I want to just live with you forever!" <br><br>Her mom replied, "You don't have to worry about your dad. He's not going to come back." <br><br>What made this all the more disturbing was that my brother had married a woman from the same school, and it turned out the mom was his ex-wife. She was so desperate to keep him that she accused him of beating and raping her, and had him arrested. She was forced to admit she lied, but not before she had him arrested and charged with rape. In the end he was able to get the charges dropped, and they got a divorce.
