Netflix is testing an AI animated show that costs half of traditional animated shows to produce

Netflix has seemingly started testing animated content that is created by AI. A new animated comedy series that started airing today on Netflix in several regions, called **Dandadan,** is seemingly partially animated by AI. While traditional animators are also involved in creating the series, AI animation is believed to make up a significant portion of the show. <br><br>The show was made with the aid of Japanese company **Arm Co., Ltd,** which has a partnership with Google to provide AI support. As a result, the costs of production are much lower. An article from Korean site **BusinessKorea** claimed that producing each episode of **Dandadan** would have a production cost of about 120 million Won (~$80,000 USD). That is half of the normal cost of about 240 million Won (~$162,000) per episode.<br><br>The streaming giant is planning to release more animated shows using AI for the animation process. An article in **Korea JoongAng Daily** claims that Netflix is planning to release its second AI produced animated series in the first half of next year.<br><br>It has been known for a long time that Netflix is looking to explore the depths of AI in its content production efforts. However the company currently faces opposition from The Art, Animation, Visual Effects Guild for its use of AI.<br><br>Netflix is also planning to use AI for scriptwriting as well. As per a **Variety** report, Netflix is using AI to find the best script from a batch of scripts. While many of the scripts are written by humans, some are made with the use of AI, and all of them are run through the AI to find the best possible script.<br><br>Netflix is also currently testing ads created by AI.
