CMV: The US should completely open its border to Venezuelan immigrants and allow them to settle anywhere in the country

The debate over immigration from Mexico into the US has been endless, and people’s opinions will not change. There is a lesser known country that I think most people would agree should be allowed to immigrate to the US. This country is Venezuela.<br><br>Venezuela is in the midst of its worst recession ever, and has been since 2013. The recession has been so severe that most of the food, water, and medicine is either heavily rationed or flat out unaffordable. It’s gotten to the point where people are actually starving. This has caused many Venezuelans to flee the country. The market in Venezuela is so destroyed that the government has begun arresting bakers who don’t use their flour. The government has also begun jailing people who have posted on social media about the food and water shortages. Venezuela has also begun to experience extreme violence with sharp increases in crime rates. <br><br>Despite all this, the US has not really allowed any more Venezuelans in than usual. We should give immediate green cards to any Venezuelan that makes it here because it is our moral duty. We are the richest country in the world. We have the largest military, the strongest economy, and the highest amount of resources consumed per-capita. We have an obligation to help those in desperate need. The US has a history of helping other countries in desperate need. After WWII, we rebuilt Germany and Japan. After the Cold War, we rebuilt Eastern Europe. The US has a history of sacrificing its own tax dollars, and the lives of its military personnel to protect freedom, democracy, and people in need. And because of that we are the best country in the world. We have been relatively safe and protected from the rest of the world, and have not had to deal with war in almost 200 years, while every other country in the world has either had war with a neighboring country, been occupied, or both. The least we can do is allow starving people into our country. I would even go as far as to say we should allow them to settle anywhere they please. Most immigrants are often restricted to certain areas of the country. I say allow them to settle wherever they want. We should go all out in helping these people.
