I don't understand Yuta's appeal, a rant about what I think went wrong

I've been trying to avoid talking about a certain subject, because I know it's very divisive, and I don't want to argue with anyone on the internet, but I've been holding this in for too long. Yuta's popularity has been annoying the hell out of me. Before I get into anything, I want to clarify that I have nothing against people who like Yuta, but I do have a problem with the way he's portrayed.

I don't get why people find him so charming or cool. I can't even begin to fathom it. I would get it if he had the "tough guy on the outside, softie on the inside" personality, but god damn, he's just not. The only time I can think of him being "sweet" was when he hugged Ando, but that was it. Don't bring up the hospital scene because that moment didn't make me feel anything good.
As for his tough exterior, I don't get why people say he's stoic. he's just so overtly expressive, and the times he tries to look cool, he's just not funny. This is where I think what went wrong comes in.

Yuta's entire character was just a big buildup to the audience to be like "ooh, he's not a good guy". Yuta's popularity was also a big buildup to the auidience to be like "Who is he? He sounds cool." But, something that jumped out at me, and ruined Yuta's character for good, was when he started to call himself the "hero". Oh my god...this character..is not the hero. My god, the audacity. He is anything but the hero.
I found him to be really charming at first, which I think is part of the problem. When I saw his first scenes, he seemed to embody the "tough guy on the outside, soft on the inside" vibe. He seemed like a good guy, and I was rooting for him. But that didn't last. At first I thought it was okay because the story could go in the direction of Yuta being the villain. But that didn't happen. He's the main character. Looking back, I think that's why a lot of his popularity upsets me. It just doesn't make sense to me.
Yuta's character just didn't live up to the amazing potential he had.
