I stole from my job every day for 4 years.

This is a throwaway. I've never told anyone about this. It's killed me for many years. I need to get this off my chest and I want to do so anonymously. It's not to gloat, merely to confess. I've never told anyone. I'm going to stay pretty vague here, as I fear someone I know may see this. I changed some details as well.

When I was younger, I worked at a large big box retail establishment in the United States. I worked in a department that had a register. I was a full time employee for just over 4 years. I ended up as a lead in my department, and also worked in the store as a secondary manager maybe 8 times. I had access to just about everything. One day someone taught me how to steal from my register. After that first day, I stole every day at work after that.

I would steal $20, $50, $100, $200 a day usually. Sometimes more. At least once or twice a month, $500 or more.

I had a system, and never go caught. I took so much that some months I could pay all of my bills just off what I had taken from work. IAVORITE thing to do was use $100 bills I had stolen to buy my pay checks from my coworkers. So, essentially I'm buying back the money I had stolen. I would use the stolen money to buy lunch every day too. I'd buy 100.00 meals with nothing but $100.00 bills I had stolen.

I bought a car with the money I had stolen. It was a $5000 used car. I did pay taxes on it though. That was about 6 months worth of stealing.

I'm not proud of this. However, I feel no remorse for it maybe that's because I got away with it and it's been years. I've since stopped stealing. I don't even take ketchup packets anymore. I maybe ate 1000 ketchup packets during my time there.

I've never been caught. And at the time of my leaving the store I had a good relationship with everyone there. I was in charge of the registers when I left, and in charge of ordering the register tape among other things. I had access to the cameras, and spent many an hour just watching the registers to watch for people stealing. It's maybe why I never got caught.

Edit:

Wow! I'm surprised this blew up. I wrote this as a confession, not to brag or to make it seem like it's ok to do this. Also thank you for the 3 gold. Cheers.

Edit 2:

Wow! This has blown up. I'm Glad I could share this story as I finally feel like a weight has been lifted from me. Yes, I'm ashamed of this. I'm mortified that my family will likely see this. I just had to get it out there. Please don't think that I condone stealing. It's not something I ever wanted to do. Also, thank you for the gold and silver. Cheers to all of you.

Edit 3:

I've thought about this, and I would say that I easily took well over 50k maybe as much as 70 or 80. I wasn't keeping track. Also, I realize that I made a mistake above. I didn't buy the car with all stolen money. Maybe 3 or 4 thousand came from the stolen money.

Also, I was making 8 an hour at the time, so It didn't take too much to pay my bills. However, It did help maybe pay an extra 500-1000 a month in student loans.

Let me just say if you're going to do this...make sure you can get away with it.

I appreciate all of the kind words, and again thank you for the gold and silver.

Edit 4:

I feel that I need to edit this again. I am not proud of this. This has been the biggest regret of my life. I would not wish this feeling on my worst enemy. Please do not think I'm doing this to brag.

Also, I'm not sure how I would go about messaging people for all the PM's I've received.

Please realize that when you are 18-22 you are stupid. Let this be a cautionary tale for you. Do not try this at home.
