CMV: You do not want to live in a society where prostitution is legal.

This topic is one that I have been thinking about for quite some time now. Everywhere around the world I see that more and more people are in support of prostitution to become legal. The most common reasons for this are:<br><br>1. Then you would be able to regulate prostitution, creating safer environments for both the client and the prostitute. <br>2. A big chunk of tax revenue (roughly 5.7 billion in the Netherlands).<br>3. Much less influence for criminal organisations. <br><br>I do not think that you would want to live in a society where this is the case however, and that is what I will be arguing in this post.<br><br>Prostitution is a very unnatural thing for humans. What I mean with this is the following: we do not want to have a monetary relationship with other human beings. As an example you can look at surgeons. Sure, society would be much better of with surgeons than with prostitutes (or at least that is what most people would say), but nobody wants to fuck a surgeon. The same goes for lawyers, they are much more important for society to function than a prostitute is (once again, according to the general opinion), but I have not yet met a single person who is attracted to a lawyer because of the fact that he is a lawyer (Of course this does not go for all cases).<br><br>I would argue that society is better off without prostitution. You could, when you start looking for things that are in support of my argument, very easily come up with a whole host of reasons as to why that is. For instance by using the fact that women are more often forced into prostitution than men. Or by using the fact that prostitutes, when they are legal, will still be seen as inferior to others who work normal jobs. You could use things like STD rates, tax benefits and the breakdown of relationships as an argument as well. I don't think that these are the core problems however.<br><br>The biggest problem that prostitution brings with it is the fact that humans are being commodified. Humans should never, ever have a monetary value set on them. I believe that to be an awful, awful thing which no one wants. But that is exactly what happens when prostitution becomes legal. When prostitution becomes legal, it is legal to buy and sell human bodies. You are allowed to purchase sex from people, which in my opinion is completely fucked up.
