Apple Inc. has laid off hundreds of employees from Project Titan, its autonomous vehicle initiative, as part of a shift in focus toward building software for cars.<br><br>The cuts come a day after the tech giant announced the largest round of job reductions in its history, with plans to eliminate about 7,400 positions, or 4% of its workforce, across multiple divisions. The layoffs reflect Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook’s efforts to adapt the company to a slowing economy and keep a lid on costs.<br><br>Project Titan has been in flux for years, with numerous changes in direction, leadership, and strategy. In 2021, Apple poached a top executive from Lamborghini to oversee the project, which was seen as a sign that it was moving toward making a consumer vehicle. However, the initiative struggled to gain traction, and the company ultimately decided to focus on software instead.
