Whoever said cooking is an unfair gender role definitely has a point, but cooking is just a basic survival skill like learning how to tie your shoelaces or fix a punctured turn. Everyone should learn how to cook as it's a major part of caring for oneself.

Hardy concurs. "There is a lot of sexism in relation to food preparation," said the Home Economics teacher, but points out that "chopping is very important to survival."

With the rise of frozen meals and meal delivery, it may seem like cooking is no longer necessary. Hardy disagrees. "If this happens, you just end up with a processed diet," which presents a number of health risks.

Hardy also noted that meal kits "lack sustainability" and are harmful to the environment. "The amount of plastic packaging is just unbelievable. By cooking at home, you're not just healthy, you're sustainable."

In terms of cost, Hardy notes that it's much easier to save money by cooking at home, especially if the ingredients are sourced from local farmers' markets or the grocery store. While the convenience of meal kits may be nice, it's worth the sacrifice of time for a healthier diet and a more sustainable future.
