I was at a Starbucks a little while ago and I ordered $30 worth of drinks for a party. I was asked if I wanted to pay card at the drive thru or inside. I had two separate cards I wanted to use, and didn’t want to run inside. When I asked if they could charge one card for the drinks and the other card for the custom orders, they said they could. I told them to charge the drinks to one card and the custom orders to the other card. They then asked me if I wanted two separate receipts or one receipt. I told them one receipt was fine, and they charged the whole $30 to one card, and gave me one receipt. I didn’t realize the whole $30 was charged to one card until I got inside.

After that experience, I learned that when ordering squared up at a drive thru and it’s over $25, I’m going to pay with card at the drive thru. This way if something happens to the squared up orders, or I don’t want to give out a credit card, I’ll be able to get a receipt that includes every single item ordered.

LPT: When ordering squared up at a drive thru and it’s over $25, pay with card at the drive thru.
