I’d like to hear opinions of the Reddit community about the following

So I’m a high school English teacher. And I’ve been doing this for 16 years now. I have a colleague that is having some difficulties. She is also an English teacher but for grade 10. She has a class that is a handful. And I’d like to hear what you have to say. <br><br>So apparently she gave a reading assignment that was due on the last day of the semester. She gave them a handout and had them do comprehension questions. The exam consists of a written report. So the students, some of them decided to read the assignment out loud. And while they were doing that they high jacked and hijacked the assignment. They were all reading the handout with a bunch of “mother fuckers” and “fuck” and a bunch of nonsense. My colleague heard them and asked them to stop. They didn’t. So she told them to stop. Then they got up to hand in their exam. She looked through it and it was full of inappropriate language and slurs. So she held it and told the student not to use that language in her classroom. The student got mad and called her a bitch under his breath. My colleague heard and said that was it and took the exam from the student and decided to fail him.<br><br>Now the student went to the principal and told him that my colleague called him a bitch which isn’t true. The principal was livid and asked her about it. She told him the truth, that he called her a bitch but she just took the exam and wanted to fail him. And then the principal told her that it was her fault for trying to take his exam away to begin with.<br><br>I heard all of this a few days ago and my colleague is so upset. I told her to go to administration and report it as well as our department head. She told me that she went to admin and they said she did nothing wrong but they also told her she’d have to let the student retake the exam.<br><br>So, what do you think? Should we report it to admin or should she take it to the school board or Union? Any advice would be great.
