I was 12

When I was born, my family moved across the country because my father had found a job in a rural area that paid really well, but made us extremely isolated. I don't know all the details, but my mother isn't really willing to talk about this period in her life. When we settled in I got a little sister 6 months after. By the time I was 12 we lived on a ranch with no electricity, no phone, and frankly, we lived like cavemen. My sister was 6 by this time and it was spring. It was nice out as we lived in the mountains so the winter was awful.<br><br>One day it snowed in spring and my father wanted to go check the animals. I decided to stay in and finish my school work. My sister decided to go with my father for reasons I didn't know until she was older. So my sister and my father go out into the fields and after a while my mother came to me in a panic. She said that my father and sister were dead. She said we were in danger and had to get out. My mother is a big woman and she pushed me out the back window as she was slowly being dragged back in. I watched as my father dragged her back into the house.<br><br>It was snowing out, i was in my pajamas. I had been doing my school work and I was cold and I had no idea what was going on. I ran and I found a small stream to hide in. I watched as my father dragged my mother outside. He shot her in the head. She slumped to the ground. i watched as he set the house on fire. I watched as he left and started looking for me. After a while he gave up and left to go find help. The fire had consumed the house and I knew I had to get out of there. I left the stream, it was starting to get dark and I was getting cold. I walked and walked until I saw a car coming. A woman pulled over and asked me what was wrong. I explained my situation and she took me to the police. <br><br>I found out my father had been slowly losing his mind. He had killed many animals and he thought I was in on it. He thought I was messing up the ranch. He didn't care about my mother or sister. I found out she was dead by being hit with the shovel. I've never really found out why he was like that. i don't care. But i found out part of the reason he killed my family is he thought my sister and mother admired me more than him.<br><br>Sometimes I get flash backs and i start shaking violently. his voice makes my skin crawl. I don't talk to my extended family ever.
