Best way to remember Japanese characters (for beginners)?

well like I'm learning kanji kind of... but now I'm trying to learn kana too, but if I remember correctly then it seems there are two types of kana?<br><br>well, like I'm not sure how to really remember the characters though, do you guys have any advice on this topic?
