Hello teachers! i'm an education major and am currently doing my student teaching. i've been looking at this sub a lot and have found a lot of great advice, resources, and just fun stories. i'm doing all of this under the umbrella of my veteran mentor who has acquired a lot of wisdom over the years. she has used the term "i'm done now" when something really happens that makes her say "i'm done now". i love this idea, and it's becoming so relatable. i wanted to share my moments and hear yours. once i have kids of my own of course, lol!

this week, my mentor went out to grab lunch and i was left alone with a room of 60 5th grade students.

she left at 11am. at 11:05, a student walked up to me and said "can i get my book? my teacher usually gets my books out of my backpack if i get out of hand." i looked at him confused and said "i do not get your books out of your backpack." he stared at me, then i started to see his eyes well up. i said "oh no, you're about to cry aren't you?" he took a few deep breaths and ran out of the classroom, tears streaming down his face. he's a talker, so he talks a lot when he's on task so i thought it was that... but clearly. he spent all of class running around campus, digging through the garbage, and putting his head down on chairs and tables. my mentor came back and got him. he never said anything to me. just looked at me and shook his head. i thought "oh shit." then i just laughed. my mentor and the school counselor also laughed.

today my partner teacher (the grade level lead) needed me to deliver a folder to one of the opposite grade level's classrooms, since it's way across campus and she had to give a detention to one of the students. so i'm walking across campus, and there are a bunch of 3rd graders playing tag. i see a girl running around, glancing over her shoulder, laughing. one of the taggers comes up behind her, and he spins her around and BAM, gives her the hugest hug i've ever seen. she looks up at him, and he looks down at her, and this little girl just elbowed him in the balls and ran away. i gasped.

he fell to the ground and i ran up to him, asking if he's okay, and i can hear him saying "don't tell anyone, don't tell anyone!" i said "i won't tell anyone, is there anything i can get for you?"

two seconds later one of his friends comes up to me and says, "hey, does he need anything? if so do you want me to get it for him?" and i said "no, i think he's okay. but thank you!"

one minute later, his friend comes up to me and says "i think he's okay, he's doing tag."

i just talk to 3rd graders sometimes when they're walking in lines or playing on the playground. one of these 3rd graders, a little blonde girl, has taken a liking to me and always says hi and waves and runs up to give me hugs. she is the funniest and sweetest girl ever. this week i was sitting on the bleachers during lunch recess, and she convinced three of her friends to do the cha cha slide.

one of my 5th grade classes is full of "difficult" students. this week we did an activity where they were using scissors and tape. i spent 15 minutes with one student getting him to use tape instead of glue, and 15 minutes with another student convincing him to do his project even though he doesn't like crafts. we're getting close to finishing up the lesson, and i see another student juggling 3 pairs of scissors. i run up to him and yell "WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?! WE ARE DOING A CRAFT AND YOU'RE PLAYING HACKY SACK WITH SCISSORS RIGHT NEXT TO THE DESKS?!" he dropped the scissors and the class gasped. my mentor was like "girl you better calm down" and i just laughed. the student, my buddy, shook his head and mumbled "man you almost gave me a heart attack" and walked off. i just laughed.

these are my "i'm done now" moments. i'd love to have more. what're yours?
