Why do folks repeatedly ask questions that have already been asked?

I’m a relatively new user here, and I enjoy the quality of the discussion. But I’m starting to get a little frustrated with the number of questions that are repeated over and over. I’m not sure if it’s young people posting questions they have that no one has asked the internet before (but has been repeatedly asked and answered in comment threads here) or folks who don’t read through previous posts before asking questions and engaging with commenters. I’m not talking repetitive questions about ethics – the same question can be asked repeatedly with different facts. I’m talking about questions that are the same across multiple posts.

My thought is that these folks are probably just getting off of Reddit and don’t know how to search the sub properly or haven’t seen certain topics posted repeatedly. Sometimes, however, it seems that the same questions are asked in a short span of time. For example, I saw a question asking if a person who never does anything wrong can be considered immoral. That same question was asked in a thread a few days ago, and the same question has been asked repeatedly over the last few months.

I can control my reactions by not engaging in these threads. My question is whether this is a problem for the sub. I think it is because it chases away quality commenters who are tired of repeatedly answering the same questions. I think the board can be improved with more rigorous moderation, such as just removing threads that are completely redundant or requiring posters to make a better search before posting.
