Last summer I made the comment “I am not a feminist, I am just a woman who wants to live safely” and it was met with extreme hostility.

Last summer I was on a PF about traditional women. It was 99% women. I said something along the lines of:

To me I am not a feminist, I am just a woman who wants to live safely and be respected and treated as a person. I don’t really care if that is the same definition of the word feminism or not. All I want is to feel safe to drive alone at night, to walk alone, to feel like I don’t have to be a wife and mom before I am 25.

They told me I was a feminist.

I said I didn’t want to be one because I am not a man hater.

They said I was because I wanted to feel safe and be treated as a person.

Then I got a comment that changed everything for me:

“I am a woman, and I too don’t want to feel unsafe or treated bad. But the reason why I was is because of men. Not because of women. Feminism is a good thing and if you don’t like feeling unsafe then you should fight with us to feel safe. We as women should be feminists to fight together against men who make us feel unsafe and treated bad.”

It is a paraphrase, but I really believe it is what most women think. A lot of them literally hate women who are traditional.

Anyone else who has had the same experience?
