When someone says “the food here is good and all but the people are assholes” they always mean black people

This was inspired by a post saying Atlanta is a great place to live except when it comes to the people. Apparently the people in Atlanta are assholes.

When I hear this kind of talk it always comes off as racist. If we’re being honest with ourselves, who are the people who are supposedly being assholes? What do they look like? Would it perhaps happen that they are black?

Atlanta is black as hell and everybody knows it. “the people here are assholes” oh really? What did they look like? “Oh just the people here, I can’t describe them because that would make me a racist and I don’t want to sound prejudiced so I won’t mention race, but they just happen to be all the black people around here who are assholes”

This has happened to me before too, except the city was Oakland and there happens to be a lot of black people in Oakland. It just so happened that a lot of the people who were being assholes were black. So I’m starting to think that when people talk about a city having good food with shitty people, what they really mean is that the city has good food and a lot of blacks.

I think a lot of the times people talk like this because they don’t want to sound prejudiced but sometimes I think it’s just a backhanded way of sound racist because they can say “oh I didn’t specify the race so I’m not in the wrong!” They just sound more in the wrong for me because now I’m starting to think that they associate black people with being assholes, or they associate assholes with being black, something that they won’t admit to out loud because they know it makes them sound prejudiced.
