**EDIT / UPDATE:**

Wow! Eesh. This got a lot more traction than I expected! Firstly, thank you for all of the support, it really means a lot to me. I've got a major exam this afternoon so I'm pricing myself away for a few hours. I'll be back in the early evening to answer any questions you may have and provide a little update ourselves.

Thanks again!

****

This has literally thrown my entire life upside down.

I'm 22 years old. This is my third year in college and I've been working at this restaurant / bar in my town since I was 17. It's a really nice place, we have what you'd call "upper class" customers coming in and out every day. It's very rare we get "normal" people in, and we treat everyone as what you'd consider a VIP.

I start working as a waiter. I work my way up to working as a bar tender and then eventually / part time as what we call a "maître d'".

Long story short, we have a start of the year party for all of the staff. The restaurant / bar is closed that day, and everyone is invited with a +1. In total, we have roughly 150 people at the party, which is the entire staff. People get very drunk. I got extremely drunk myself. I was almost what you'd consider "blackout drunk" at one point. I didn't know what was happening. It was horrible.

Anyways! I end up going home with one of my co-workers. We've always gotten along for what it's worth. Ashley is her name. Extremely nice girl. We end up having sex in what I can only describe as a "walk of shame" in the morning. I don't blame anyone here, because that's what adults do when they're drunk.

Fast forward two weeks, Ashley calls me crying. I rush over to her and she's very upset. She has a piece of paper in her hand and waves it in my direction. I ask what's up. And she just collapses into tears. I hold her for a while, and eventually manage to get her to calm down. She shows me the piece of paper. It says it's a positive test. I start trying to calm her down, asking what we're gonna do. We both cry. The next two days we just cry. I think we both needed a good cry. Honestly.

The next Sunday night, it hits social media that I "knocked up" Ashley. We didn't tell people, it must have been someone we told. So it all comes out as rumor first. And eventually / days later as fact.

My Director / Head Honcho / Manager (what you will) is also the father of Ashley. He comes to me that Monday morning. And immediately lets me go. He tells me he never wants to see me in his restaurant again. I ask what's going on. He says I "knock up his daughter and now you're gone."

I start getting messages from former coworkers. Apparently the superior has told everyone I was let go because I "knock up his daughter". So this is the rumor going around. I lose a lot of my friends over this.

I'm kind of at a loss as to what to do. Of course we have our ups and downs. But this situation is just really shitty. Should I just accept this and say "oh well, this is life?" Or should I maybe see if I have any recourse or if I can fight back over this? Or am I just being stupid? AITA?

****

EDIT: Ashley is what you would call / consider to be the General Manager. I was directly under her, as part of a chain of command.

Also, I didn't know it was a family owned business. And yes, he is the owner.

**EDIT / UPDATE:**

Wow! Eesh. Thanks again for all of the support. I'm blown away by how this blew up. I thought I was just gonna share my story to some few thousand people. But in the end, this went completely viral. Thank you all.

I met with a lawyer this morning. I'm pretty confident in taking this to court and getting my job back. If not, I'll be in for quite the compensation. So we'll see how that works out. /r/nosleep is wrong. Lawyers are cheap and great peoples.

I still have my job for the time being. It's been great seeing all of you people / you people seeing yourselves in the comments. The support has really helped me feel better. And I want to thank everyone for what really is nothing at all.

But you're all great. Thank you.
